In case you haven’t heard, there is going to be an old-fashioned land rush on Facebook tonight.
At 12:01 a.m EDT (9:00 p.m. PDT), there will be an unprecedented rush to the Facebook website as millions of users try to be the first to claim their desired Facebook username.
What is the fuss all about? Right now, to direct your friends and family to your Facebook page, you must share the current URL, which likely includes a string of random characters and numbers. Wouldn’t it be nice if linking to your Facebook page was as simple as directing people to www.facebook.com/yourname?
At the appointed hour, go to http://www.facebook.com/username/ to request your desired username. Be prepared for the site to be running slowly as you’ll be joining as many as hundreds of millions of people around the globe doing exactly the same thing at that time.

I’ve got my alarm set to remind me to be online at this time. Will you be there to claim your Facebook identity?
